The prince of preachers, Charles Spurgeon once said,"When we preach Christ crucified, we have no reason to stammer, or stutter, or hesitate, or apologize; there is nothing in the gospel of which we have any cause to be ashamed." Those are powerful words as we seek to equip Christian high school kids to advance the gospel in a challenging, Christ-hating school environment. Many of whom don't really know where to begin in proclaiming Jesus Christ in their area of influence.
On Wednesday, December 2nd Sports Outreach Northwest launched the Breakfast of Champions to help encourage these kids and to provide a place for them to invite friends to hear the glorious gospel. We started with 15 kids from 3 of the 4 high schools in Hillsboro. Our anticipation is that the number will grow as word gets out and we effectively figure out rides as many of the kids don't drive. In short, we are very excited as we've been dreaming of starting this outreach for 5 years.
The group will meet each Wednesday at 7:45am to 8:40am at Godfather's pizza in Hillsboro. This location is close enough to allow kids to arrive to their schools on time. All high school students of various interests are welcome. Our format is 3 worship songs, a short message, breakfast, and fellowship time. We have a number of moms helping out and are building a team to fill up the worship schedule. My first message was on why we should study the Bible which will be followed up on truths about Jesus.
Former MLB player, Ben Petrick will be signing autographs at the 4th annual SONW baseball clinic on Friday, June 19th. Below is the picture he will be signing. What a great gift for the kids!

Catch the vision - 3 phase APPROACH
What fuels you? Where do your passions lie and how are you chasing after them? Well, for me it certainly is advancing the gospel through the medium of sports in the Northwest. It consumes my mind and actions. I've found nothing more rewarding than answering the Lord's call on my life.
Sharing the Ministry:
As part of this call, providing opportunities for Christians to serve Christ and to connect with fellow believers has always been one of my favorite parts of leadership. Brings great joy to me! This is one reason why I love pioneering new ministries like SONW. It truly energizes me to see the body of Christ come together to be used to build something special under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. I couldn't even begin to count how many people have helped SONW to reach the point we are today. However, we want to keep going for the sake of the Gospel.
How do we Increase the Involvement?
It starts with developing a wise plan. Our strategy has been to break things up into three phases. This will allow us to gauge where we are at in the process. The ultimate goal is to see the team expand to fulfill our mission.
Raise $100,000 of annual revenue. Through generous giving we raised 45% of the funding goal come in for 2014. We are on pace to reach around 65% in 2015.
What does phase 1 accomplish?
1. Full-time director salary
2. Part time administration help
3. Covers clinic expenses and general ministry costs
4. Provides office rental
Add additional Northwest missionaries to the team to advance the gospel. Having a full-time director will allow us to effectively shepherd these individuals. Each would raise their own individual support.
Areas of focus to plant missionaries:
Mount Angel, OR
Bonney Lake, WA
Do you know someone that you'd think would be a great SONW missionary?
Build a multipurpose building with ball fields for evangelism and discipleship. This could include after school programs, outreach events, and sports tournaments to draw the community in for gospel purposes.
I've been dreaming about something like this for 15 years.
