Our History
FROM A SINGLE STUDY TO MULTI-SPORT IMPACT

A short History of SONW
Sports Outreach Northwest began humbly with a simple desire to encourage and equip local fcoaches. It started with a small coaches’ Bible study made up of three believing football coaches from Hillsboro, OR, who invited others to attend. As they gathered each week to study God’s Word, pray, and support one another, a vision began to grow—using sports as a platform to impact lives for Christ.
What began in a Panara Bread restaurant soon expanded onto the court and field. The coaches started offering team chapels, where Eric Nyborg taught biblical truth to their athletes. From there, the impact continued to grow as players expressed a desire to go deeper, leading to the formation of a youth group (Night of Champions) specifically for student-athletes.
These early steps laid the foundation for what would become Sports Outreach Northwest—a ministry dedicated to serving the sports community, proclaiming the gospel, and investing in the next generation through clinis, camps, skills training, and club teams.
